The inbound firewall in LittleSnitch provides you with the same level of control for incoming connections. Little Snitch for macOS not only reveals any outgoing network connection attempt to make sure that sensitive data doesn’t leave your computer without your consent. Profiles can be activated either manually from the status menu, or automatically, whenever you join a network that’s associated with one of your profiles. This allows you to use different sets of filter rules depending on the network you are currently connected to. Rules can be arranged in different profiles like “Home”, “Office” or “Mobile Internet”. It only takes one click on the research button to anonymously request additional information for the current connection from the Research Assistant Database. Have you ever wondered why a process you’ve never heard of before suddenly wants to connect to some server on the Internet? The Research Assistant helps you to find the answer. You can then later review the Silent Mode Log to define permanent rules for connection attempts that occurred during that time. With Silent Mode you can quickly choose to silence all connection warnings for a while. There are times where you don’t want to get interrupted by any network related notifications. Little Snitch for Mac runs inconspicuously in the background and it can also detect network related activity of viruses, trojans and other malware. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does! My M1 is likely to get Little Snitch soon.A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. Sure it's nice that Patrick Wardell makes his great software available for "free" (he does ask for support on Patreon), but I'd rather pay for the more robust features in Little Snitch. On Reddit I see a lot of threads which can be summarized as "LuLu is better because it's free." Uh, ok, but software doesn't grow on trees. ![]() I haven't experienced any particular slowdown - unless a LuLu alert gets burried under other windows, awaiting user action. Each time Zoom attempts the connection, there's a big warning window (which incidentally, doesn't match the LuLu UI leading to confusion). And LuLu keeps popping up alerts during s that "warn" me about an untrusted certificate (which is the result of NextDNS blocking ) there is no way to stop this alert in LuLu. Little Snitch is much more flexible on temporary rules and specifying domains, IPs, ports, etc. LuLu is somewhat disappointing to me: the UI is, well, spartan if not homely, and it has quite a bit less functionality than Little Snitch. I'm using it on one M1 Mac, but stick with Little Snitch on my other Macs. Lulu has advanced quite a bit since this thread started.
